On the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a shooter in his 60s opened fire in Beam Hall, resulting in three fatalities and one injury before being killed by police. The incident rapidly escalated, moving through multiple floors of the building. The wounded individual, initially critical, is now stable.
In response to the tragedy, University Police acted swiftly, confronting and stopping the gunman, a move hailed as heroic by Las Vegas Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill. Following the incident, University President Keith E. Whitfield called the shooting “unfathomable” and has suspended all campus activities until Sunday, with plans to reassess resuming activities in the following week.
