“Bewitched,” which premiered on September 17, 1964, holds a lasting legacy despite its eight-season run. Sol Saks, the creator, drew inspiration from films like “I Married a Witch” and “Bell, Book and Candle” for the pilot episode. Elizabeth Montgomery’s iconic nose twitch as Samantha remains widely recognized. The show faced casting changes, with Dick York leaving due to health issues, replaced by Dick Sergeant. Montgomery, who played Samantha, was pregnant three times during filming. Speculations of a curse arose as several cast members died young, often from cancer. Despite private lives and challenges, the cast left a significant impact. The show’s conclusion in 1972 aligned with Montgomery’s desire, and Dick Sergeant later came out as gay in 1991. “Bewitched” endures as a classic, appreciated by audiences even today.
